Recognize the Developmental Traits of Your Child
Education April 15th, 2008It is important for parents to distinguish what stage in development their child is as the child grows physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially. Parents who are able to distinguish the different child development stages are often successful in implementing their parenting strategies. As the growth of every child is different at different levels, it is necessary to understand the various changes that a child undergoes when he/she grows older. You can always check with your physician for a routine physical examination that would answer many of your doubts in child development.
Elementary children learn most of the things through movement. So, they should be given physical education during the developmental years. Only when they touch things and hold them, they will be able to recognize the difference. The mind and body of elementary children seldom work together. The parents should encourage their children at this stage to move and explore. Also, holding smaller things is very difficult for them. So, the parents can assist them in cutting with a pair of scissors, proper holding of writing utensils and all other activities that involve usage of fingers.
Activity lessons would also help the child to know things and their uses. Parents can also read to them and they should try to change the subject after every 15-20 minutes as small children get bored easily. Also, elementary children are not methodical in nature and hence analyzing and processing information is a very difficult task for them. They also would find it difficult to make decisions and choices. Parents can assist their children in these areas if they want the overall development of their child.
